Project for a Trip to Syria
I.
I am going to Syria.
I will walk across the borders of Europe between Madrid and Damasco.
After having been traveling for a while, I will walk across the Bosphorus Bridge, spanning the Bosphorus strait between Europe and Asia.
Five variables:
- Bosphorus Bridge
- a boat
- a coat
- walking non-stop in the afternoon
- peaked cloth caps
Consider other posible permutations.
I have never been to Syria.
I have always wanted to go to Syria. Always.
II.
Will this trip appease a longing?
- The longing to go to Syria, you mean?
- Any longing.
Yes.
Archeology of longings.
Don't panic. "Confesion is nothing, knowledge is everything." That's a quote but I'm not going to tell who said it.
Hints:
- a writter
- somebody wise
- a man with a hat (that is not a Jew)
- a refugee
- he died in Armenia in 1951
Confession is me, knowledge is everybody.
Archeology of conceptions.
Am I permitted a photograph?
III.
The conception of this trip is very old.
First conceived when? As far back as I can remember.
- Investigate the possibility that I was conceived in Syria though born in south america and brought up elsewhere (Europe).
Prenatal relation to Syria: certain pain, perhaps. But I don't remember.
[ - pain is bread in french. /?/ ]
Something filtering through the bloody mebranes, anyway.
Beatiful, millionaire brother witth their wifes.
A landscape of brown colors, smoke, old buildings, a mountain, soap.
Missionaires, foreign militaries advisers. Fur trades in the desert, among then my father.
Colonialist Collect.
Trophies brought back, left behind in homage to the other living room, the one I never saw. Unrepresentative, opaque objects. In dubious taste (but I nly know that now). Confusing solicitations. The birthday gift bracelet made of five small tubular lenghts of green jade, each tiny end capped in gold, wich I never wore.
Colors of jade:
- green, all sorts, notable emerald green and bluish green
gray
yellow mustard
brownish
redish
no other colors
One certainty: Syria inspired the first lie I remember telling. Entering the first grade , I told my classmates that I was born in Syria. I think they were impressed.
I know that I wasn't born there.
The four causes of my wanting to go to Syria:
inmaterial
formal
inefficient
final
The oldest country in the world: it requires years of ardous study to learn its language. Where everyone is forced to speak with the same voice.
- That's not true, I should say.
Whose voice is the voice of the person who wants to go to Syria? A child's voice. Less than six years old.
I'm going to Syria like going to the moon? I'll tell you when I get back.
Is going to Syria like to being born again?
Forget that I was conceived in Syria.
